 Sunderland Culture Pitch

Client:

Sunderland Culture is a organisation to improve the City of Sunderland and changing people’s perspectives about Sunderland. They are holding a exhibition in the glass centre and it will be called 'Who am I?' The exhibition will also be held in Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens in  Mowbray Park. I've been asked to explore around and develop ideas for my own media work relating to 'Rational Identity' which explores the question 'Who am I?'

My Idea:

My idea is for creating a print advert for Sunderland Culture. The plan is I'll include the places that Sunderland Culture shows on their website such as, National Glass Centre, Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens and Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art. In the middle, the main title will be 'Visit Sunderland!' in order to attract audience to visit and the Sunderland Culture logo will be in the top of the text. This will appeal to my audience because there will be people who are curious to visit the whole City of Sunderland and learn the Northern Eastern culture as well.

I want my audience to relate to one another about Sunderland and tell one another about the lifestyle living in Sunderland for example is life in Sunderland great? and is Sunderland a city that would he or she recommend?

Target Audience:

The target audience are the ages between 16-25 and my audience can be any demographic, which means any race, ethnicity, gender and education. Sunderland Culture's main aim is to engage with young people and encourage them to express their regional identity, like their background, marital status and education. The audience who are might be particularly interested in this are people who want to know the City of Sunderland and might be interested to learn about North Eastern culture and also visit the places that are recommended by Sunderland Culture, places like National Glass Centre, Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens, Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art and many more.

Research about the North East:

There is one article by The Guardian where they interviewed people who are living in The North East and said that leaving up in the north ‘allows for an excellent quality of life...’ and that they aren’t burdened with expensive house prices etc. This proves that living in the North East is not as bad as people think it is. Not only that, houses in the north are way cheaper. According to the website called ‘Quality of life’ house prices in the north are ‘73% cheaper than London and 54% lower than South East England’. This shows that not only is the life in the north is excellent but also cheaper.

Product Examples

These are the inspirations for my print advert. These adverts are made by Sunderland Vibe and I like how they promote the City of Sunderland by showing most popular places around Sunderland like Bridges and the old clock building. But I'm gonna do different than Sunderland Vibe as I will include more images from Sunderland in order to attract more audiences to come and visit the city, places such as Glass Centre, Sunderland Museum etc.

Potential locations:

The potential locations to film is the Glass Centre because I want to show my audience of how glass is made and show glass art work, the reason why is because I want to show my foreign audience that people in Sunderland have talent and skills to make art out glass and other things as well. Another potential locations that could attract even larger audiences is the Wearmouth Bridge and Stadium of Light, because the Wearmouth Bridge is possibly one of the most popular sites to take pictures as I have seen people take pictures of the bridge during the day and night. As for Stadium of Light, I think it will attract even larger audience because football is one the world's most popular sport and majority of that audience that are coming to Sunderland would want to know the history of the football club and going to a stadium tour to the Stadium of Light etc.

How this will appeal to the audience?:

This will appeal to my audience because my print advert will grab everyone’s attention and make them curious about Sunderland and possibly, explore places that they themselves haven’t visited before. Also, for foreign visitors might want to experience the Northern Eastern culture and history of Sunderland as well. Other places that could also appeal to the audience are Stadium of Light and Mowbary Park because people who enjoy football would be particularly interested learning about Sunderland AFC and do a stadium tour, as for the park even though it is small but it does have interesting places to explore in the park and the lake is the go to when people visit the park to feed the ducks and sit on the benches to relax.
