Production and Post-Production Diary

 Production Diary

30/09/2021: One of the first things when starting with this project is the client research. The client is called Sunderland Culture which is an organisation to improve or change the people's perspectives about Sunderland in general and I also had to research about the history of the client which it started in 2016 as partnership set up by Sunderland City Council. One of the things that I had to research about is the target audience and the audience are ages between 16-25 and any race, colour, and religion, the aim is to change people's perspective about the city by showing them what is considered the most popular places in Sunderland.

05/01/2022: The next thing that I had to do after client research is location scouting which is where I pick the places that could be one of my background or main image of my print advert and explain the possible disadvantages when going to these places, the first one that I choose is the city centre because people go there for shopping at Bridges and it is considered one of the popular places in the city but this particular location will have it's set backs because when I'm taking a photo, I would probably be stopped by passers by and telling me to stop taking photos without their permission. Another place is Sunderland's famous bridge named 'Wearmouth Bridge' and the one that I considered to be the strongest candidates to be the main image of my print advert because I think this will get a lot of people wanting to come to Sunderland because of where it is located and the bridge blends in very well with the blue sky and river. I have mentioned other examples like Mowbray Park and Stadium of Light that are also one the potential places for my print advert.

28/02/2022: One of the most important things before making your print or documentary is filling out a risk assessment. A risk assessment is pointing out the dangers when doing group or individual projects even if it is done inside or outside. Since I'm doing a print advert, I mainly point out the dangers when I'm working from college and one of these dangers include electric shock, allergic reaction, litter, and tripping hazard. Next I had to write about the control measures, which basically means how to prevent potential hazards when working from the inside of college.

03/03/2022: The pitch is where I explain my idea in detail. My idea is to make print adverts for the client which is Sunderland Culture and each of these print adverts will have their own main image of the most popular places in the city. Then I had to write about why print adverts will appeal to my audience because of the places that are going to be shown and that I would make them want to visit the city and hopefully they will change their impressions about Sunderland. Also I've included product examples and these examples are my inspirations for my print advert, I wrote that I would do something different by including more images (I have changed my idea to making three print adverts).

08/03/2022: I have done a flat plan, which is plan or my idea of something and show it to the examiner. Since I'm doing a print advert, I got images of potential places that I'm thinking of putting in my final product and each of them has different layouts and I basically give my opinion of which layout I like the most. I also explained the main images of each example and explained why they would be one of the main images of my final product.

16/03/2022: I had to research about print adverts, which is another way of advertising that used printed media such as magazine, newspapers, and social media. After I have researched about what a print advert is, I search the characteristics of a print advert which essentially means the main key elements or important things to put on a print advert such as, headline, image, logo,  and contact information. Lastly I had to write about what of the characteristics that I have mentioned through research might be suitable for me and why and I replied by saying that all of them are important to make a print advert successful for example an image is essentially important because it shows the main location that the audience wants to visit and that makes want to go to that place etc.

16/03/2022: I searched for example products so I could highlight each product to see if there is anything that stands out or missing bits and if I would include those layouts into my product. One of the examples is from Sunderland Vibe where one of the print adverts include the well known lighthouse that is located in Seaburn and Northern Spire Bridge. All that I have said is that Sunderland Vibe included those places because they are considered popular places in the city and by including those places in their print advert, will therefore attract potential audiences from around the UK. The last two examples also have similar analysis as the first example.

17/03/2022: Audience research is a research about your own target audience and what are expecting from the client etc. I made a Google Forum about Sunderland in general, what do they think about their own city and if the city is a good place to live etc and I had mixed opinions about Sunderland and that's why I'm trying to convince the people that Sunderland can be a great place not just for the people but for the whole of the UK. I made an audience profile which shows who are my audience, basically my audience can be from any race, religion, and background as this a social tour. My other type of audience can be also from lower are middle class and the average age are between 16-25 years of age and their mainly explores who are interested to visit Sunderland and learn about the city in general etc.

31/03/2022: I made a schedule of my print advert project and each day, I wrote what I'm going to do etc for example one of the first things that I'm going to do is taking pictures of places that I'm planning to get and I will show my progress until I get to the final product. But I'm only going to make three print adverts and I will choose the places that are close to me like Mowbray Park, Bridges, and The old clock in down town.

Progression:

In this first draft, I got a picture that I took from yesterday and then adding the layouts. One of the first layouts that I added was the scan code, I added the scan code on the bottom right hand side of the print advert to make it more like an actual print advert, the scan code will stay in the same place. As for the social media links, I would diffidently move them to the bottom left hand side of the print as the main title is under the social media links and I think that moving them to the left hand side so I can move the title to the top to be the main focus of the advert. I decided to make the title to an arc shape by using the 'Wrap Text' tool where you can find many different styles and I choose the arc shape because I want to make my print advert stand out compared to example products that I have seen.

In this second draft I only made one change, I moved the social media links to the left hand side of the poster and I have to say I like the change as it stands out even more than the first draft. As for the title, I moved it a bit higher and I still use the same text but I'm planning add more details to it like my logo and other things that I'm still haven't thought of one yet.

This my third and final screenshot of my progression. The changes that I have made compared to the first two screenshots is including the client's logo and a slogan which reads 'Enjoy the Experience'. I use two different colours for the different texts, red for the title and blue for the slogan by changing the colour on the right hand side so my audience can read them and make the advert a bit more colourful to making it appealing for my audience. Another change that I have done is adding the client's logo to let my audience know that the advert is from Sunderland Culture, who's main objective is to paint Sunderland in a positive light and change people's perspective about Sunderland and the North East.
